Steel Long Products Made in Australia

STEEL LONG PRODUCTS MADE IN AUSTRALIA

Long products include billets, sections, structural steel hollow sections, reinforcing bars, rails, wire rod and drawn wire and are primarily used in the construction, engineering, energy and automotive sectors.

InfraBuild is the largest manufacturer of steel long products in Australia and produces approximately 2.5 million tonnes per annum.

Liberty's steel long products come withEnvironmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which are independently verified documents that indicate the company’s commitment to the environmentally sustainable manufacture and application of its products. InfraBuild's steel long products can be used by projects to gain Green Star and IS rating tools points.

Hot rolled structural steel

Infrabuild produces hot rolled structural steel sections, beams, columns, channels and angles in structural grades for structural applications in the Australian construction, manufacturing, mining infrastructure, transport and storage industries.

All are manufactured in accordance with the requirements of AS/NZS 3679.1 Structural steel – Hot rolled bars and sections and are ACRS accredited300PLUS Steel is the standard product manufactured by Infrabuild for all hot-rolled structural steel sections, meaning it exceeds the minimum requirements of the Grade 300MPa in the Standard.

The majority of structural steel sections produced by Infrabuild are available in a range of standard lengths and bundle configurations, but other lengths can be specified on request.

Structural steel hollow sections

Austube Mills manufactures steel tubular, pipe and profile sections. These products are used extensively across the construction, manufacturing, transport, mining and agricultural industries.

As the home of DuraGal®, Austube Mills has consistently led the way in innovation around tensile strength and protective coatings designed specifically to meet Australian conditions. Details of the Austube Mills range, including technical specifications, can be found here.

Orrcon Steel manufactures and distributes steel, tube and pipe which are are supplied to a diverse customer base including steel fabricators, furniture and trailer body manufacturers, housing and construction companies, pipeline and infrastructure engineering firms.

Orrcon Steel offers a wide range of Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) carbon steel structural tubular products which are a significant part of their production and are used across a wide range of structural applications from building structures to major sporting arenas, major mining and industry infrastructure, and for aesthetic structural use such as airports and shipping terminals.

Precision tube is also manufactured by Orrcon Steel at its precision tubing mill in Adelaide. This mill produces square, rectangular, round and oval tube and can also manufacture special shapes subject to enquiry. Details of Orrcon's products can be found here.

Reinforcing bar

Reinforcing bar is a deformed steel bar used to provide tensile strength and control cracking in concrete elements in residential, commercial and infrastructure structures. All Infrabuild reinforcing bar products are manufactured in accordance with AS/NZS 4671 Steel reinforcing materials and are ACRS accredited.

Rod and wire

Rod and wire is used to produce various reinforcing products and post- tensioning strand for construction applications, while fencing wire is used for rural applications and specialty wire for manufacturing applications. Infrabuild's Rod, Bar and Wire business is Australia’s only manufacturer of rod bar and wire products for use in these sectors.

The company produces its own steel and billets through Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking at its facilities in Sydney and Melbourne and operates five manufacturing locations throughout New South Wales and Victoria.

The full range of Infrabuild wire products, including technical specifications, can be found here.

Rail products

Steel rails are manufactured by Liberty Primary Steel's Whyalla Steelworks in South Australia for use by the freight, mining and metropolitan rail networks. Both plain carbon and head hardened rails are available in a range of sizes and are produced in accordance with AS 1085.1–2002 Railway track material. Part 1 Steel rails.

Plain carbon is suitable for most network and light freight rail applications, while head-hardened rails exhibit greater durability and are suitable for heavy axle loads and tight-radius curves.

Steel sleepers are also available from Infrabuild that incorporate the company’s registered Trak-Lok resilient fastening system to secure the rail to the sleeper. Trak-Lok sleepers tie rails together to maintain gauge and rail position while resisting lateral and longitudinal movement of the rail. The Trak-Lok 2 resilient clip secures the rail to the sleeper in conjunction with the appropriate Trak-Lok 'Lock-n Shoulder'.

Among the benefits it offers is a lightweight design for ease of transport and handling, improved track stability and low maintenance costs.
