Non-compliant steelworkWhy this technical seminar is a must:

"It is widely recognised in Australia that the extent of structural steel material, bolts and fabrication quality problems has increased significantly in recent years. It is noted that in this time period there has also been a change in sourcing from overseas".

Philip Sanders, CEO of ACRS (Independent Third Party Australasian Standards Certification & Verification of Reinforcing, Prestressing & Structural Steels Compliance) will outline a new third party accreditation scheme applicable to structural steels to help ensure steel quality in Australian projects.

OneSteel’s David Bell and Spiros Dallas will also present their third party accreditation credentials and outline the steps involved with sourcing conforming structural steel.

This is the third in a series of technical seminars aimed at specifiers, builders, certifiers and developers interested in understanding how to best manage steel risk in a global economy.

The ASI as the peak steel body has a role to play to inform the Australian design and construction community on issues affecting steel risk management. Following earlier seminars on revisions to the hollow sections and open sections specifications involving the tightening of marking and certification, the next step to manage compliance is third party certification.

Consult Australia urges that “without assurance that the steel we are inspecting complies with the relevant Australian Standards our certificates are meaningless and we are exposed to potential structural failures, court action and financial ruin”.

AIBS maintains: “Building certifiers rely on products and systems doing what they are certified to do and the best way to ensure this happens is with an independent third party.”

Refreshments are sponsored by OneSteel.
