Exemplary Company Sustainability Achievement (large and small business)

Entry requirements for Categories 3 and 4: 

  • Large business >100 FTE). Small business (<100 FTE)
  • Must be an Australian company (with an ABN) that is within the Australian steel supply chain, including but not limited to design and construction services, manufacturing, fabricating and processing steel products, or research and development in steel related solutions.
  • The achievement must have occurred in the last 2 years from the close of the entry date. 
  • Achievements can be related to improving sustainability performance of steel manufacturing/fabrication operations, or any other company operation or service. Achievements exercised under SSA certification are recognised
  • Examples of achievements include; energy use reduction, waste reduction, modern slavery management, innovative lower carbon steel product solutions, EPD development, logistics and transport initiatives, community engagement activities, data driven solutions for sustainable outcomes including but not limited to traceability systems, BIM modelling, carbon accounting tools etc.
  • The closing date is 11.59pm Friday 30 May 2025
  • An entry fee of $450 is payable at the time of entry submission

Sections and weighted evaluation criteria for Categories 3 and 4: Exemplary Company Sustainability Achievement

The following sections are evaluated and weighted during the judging process (more details in the entry form):

Section 1 - Sustainability achievement(s) (50 points), such as: 

  • Positive environmental sustainability achievement with metrics provided as evidence e.g company energy/carbon reduction, waste reduction, water use reduction, transport improvements
  • Positive social and/or economic achievement with supporting evidence e.g local community engagement and support, increasing staff diversity and employment opportunities, addressing modern slavery
  • Positive business governance solutions e.g improvements in traceability, data management, energy metering and monitoring leading to more efficient business practices

Section 2 - Leadership and/or innovation (30 points) - Provide evidence of how the achievement demonstrates sustainability leadership for the steel industry including supply chain improvements, and leading market transformation

Section 3 – Sustainability certification (20 points) - Steel Sustainability Australia level 2 certification or above, or other equivalent steel sustainability certification credentials
