Use of steel in an infrastructure or building project to achieve exemplary sustainable outcomes (Large or Small projects)


Entry Requirements for categories 1 and 2

  • Large projects >$10 million. Small projects <$10 million.
  • Entries are open to any company from any sector in the Australian construction & infrastructure industry. The full project team must be identified as the Award is assigned to the project (not the submitting company).
  • The steel component of the project must be substantially completed (ie erected onsite) within the last 2 years from the close of the entry date. 
  • The project must include a steel-related sustainability solution.
  • The steelwork must have been fabricated or processed in Australia. 
  • Contact details must be provided for all relevant contributors to the project
  • The closing date is 11.59pm Friday 30 May 2025
  • An entry fee of $450 is payable at the time of entry submission

Sections and Judging Criteria (more details in entry form)

Projects will be assessed based on the following sections and weighted criteria to obtain a score out of 100. While entries are not required to meet every criterion, projects will not receive points for any section that has not been addressed. 

Section 1 - Robust governance systems (10 points) The project should demonstrate leadership in its governance systems or processes, particularly regarding traceability and quality assurance throughout the project.

Section 2 - Carbon reduction (20 points) The project should demonstrate leadership in carbon management and reduction.  

Section 3 - Positive environmental outcomes (30 points) The project should demonstrate leadership in achieving positive environmental outcomes and/or implementation of circularity principles.

Section 4 - Positive social and economic outcomes (20 points) - The project should demonstrate leadership in achieving positive social and/or economic outcomes.

Section 5 - Collaboration (10 points) The project should demonstrate strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement across the supply chain and project stages (design, fabrication and construction) and provide evidence of how this has enhanced sustainability outcomes.

Section 6 - Accreditations to project sustainability rating systems (10 points) such as Green Star rating, Infrastructure Sustainability Council rating or Living Building Challenge.
