The procurement, fabrication and erection of structural steelwork for buildings, infrastructure and resources projects involved in a supply chain is as varied as it is long. Contractual relationships and commercial and political pressures all influence the ultimate procurement scenario over the period of project delivery.
The regulatory environment is also continually recalibrating, influenced by tensions that exist between our obligations under World Trade Organisation (WTO) requirements for free trade, performance solutions enabling innovation and the most fundamental requirements to ensure our community can expect risk-minimised safe solutions for their workplaces and habitation. The quality and traceability of structural steel and fabricated steelwork is therefore dependent on a number of parties in the supply chain. If any link in this chain is broken, the ability to ascertain compliance is compromised.
As with the majority of construction products, structural steel and fabricated steelwork intended for the Australian marketplace, whether manufactured and fabricated locally or overseas, must meet the performance intent of the National Construction Code (NCC), Australian Standards, and the basic principles of duty of care established under Workplace Health and Safety legislation.
Presented by ASI National Technical Development Manager Dr Peter Key, this webinar will provide an in-depth exploration of the principles, practices, and protocols necessary to allow participants to minimise their risk by maintaining quality, ensuring traceability, and achieving compliance in the structural steel supply chain.
