Queensland Government commits to steel fabricator certification

Queensland Government commits to steel fabricator certification

All steel fabricators who provide steel products and services for use in non-transport related Queensland Government projects will soon require certification by Steelwork Compliance Australia (SCA) to the latest version of the Australian standard AS/NZS 5131 under an ASI initiative.

The announcement follows a government election commitment made in October 2020 to work with the ASI, the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) and other stakeholders from the steel industry to examine the need for adopting an appropriate certification scheme.

ASI is looking forward to working with the Queensland Government to arrange an implementation plan for the new requirement.

SCA provides certification for the supply, fabrication and erection of structural steelwork to AS/NZS 5131 by the requirements of the ASI National Structural Steelwork Compliance Scheme (NSSCS). For more information, please click the button below.
