Relief sought from steel tariffs

Relief sought from steel tariffs

The ASI will continue to work with the Australian Government to secure an exemption from the USA’s 25% tariff on Australian steel, despite confirmation on March 12 the tariff will go ahead, ASI chief executive Mark Cain has confirmed.

Speaking to Channel Seven and Sky News, Mark said the tariff was disappointing, but the ASI will continue pressing for relief on behalf of its members.

The last Trump administration granted Australia an exemption after nine months of lobbying by the government and others, he said.

Mark also confirmed in the interview the ASI would continue to work with governments on seeking protections for local fabricators from a surge in imported fabricated steel.
