The ASI is working with ShedSafe members to produce a simplified specifications kit for building class1a shed kit homes.
Known as shomes (short for shed home), the hybrid steel structures combine a functional workshop or storage area with living quarters. Often built using portal frame construction, benefits of shomes include easy modification to accommodate new hobbies and business ventures; flexibility and open floor plans, and cost-effective and sustainable living spaces.
ASI national manager for ShedSafe Neil Creek said the specification kit would help clarify what can and can’t be done when building class1a shed kit homes. Covered will be areas such as site classification for wind, snow and earthquake loads and watertight construction to meet the national construction code.
