SSA certification can now be used for community developments

An updated Green Building Council of Australia rating tool allows Steel Sustainability Australia (SSA) clients to leverage Green Star points and win work with builders and contractors developing ‘community precincts’ such as airports, greenfield residential projects, urban regeneration and university campuses.

The new Green Star Communities v2 rating tool, released earlier this year, goes beyond the building to address issues such as:

  • public realm and amenity
  • sustainable transport and walkability
  • integrated water management
  • place and community development

The rating tool awards SSA certified steel with Green Star points under the Responsible Services Infrastructure, Responsible Civil Works, and Responsible Public Realm Hardware credits within Green Star Communities v2.

SSA clients with a L2B certification or above (10 RPVs) can provide their clients with two to four Green Star points under each of the credits.
