Student expo promotes steel careers

Year 10 students were provided with valuable insights into careers in steel at a Launch Your Career expo held at Queanbeyan High School last month (May).

Safety and culture manager at ACT Steelworks Chey Lawler (pictured) talked about her training and career pathway and what she loves about working with steel.

ASI training and development manager Anne Lobascher provided information on the various career pathways into steel. A number of the students are now exploring the idea of work experience at ACT Steelworks and possible apprenticeships in fabrication.

The student expo was part of a subject selection night for students, who were accompanied by their parents. The purpose was to help students think about what career options are out there and what subjects would help them get there. It was attended by students, local universities, Defence Force Recruiting and the Early Learning and Care Council Australia among others.
