The Australian Steel Institute (ASI) is the nation's peak body representing the entire Australian steel supply chain from the manufacturing mills right through to end users in building and construction, heavy engineering and manufacturing. The ASI provides marketing and technical leadership to promote Australian-made steel as the preferred material to building, construction and manufacturing industries and policy advocacy to government.
The ASI has a range of solutions and tools to help our stakeholders ensure cost-effective, compliant outcomes, and structures that are resilient and achieve the intended design life. Compliance solutions include Steelwork Compliance Australia (SCA), Steel Sustainability Australia (SSA), and ShedSafe.
The domestic steel industry is vital to Australia’s economy. Steel is a key ingredient in infrastructure and construction, manufacturing, mining and agriculture. Not only does it form the backbone of the Australian economy, it plays a vital role in nation-building.
ASI works across the full extent of the supply chain and has identified a number of areas for which the stakeholders need particular knowledge. Shared knowledge makes it easier for ASI to action our mission of ensuring our supply chain is operating at maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
A significant component of the value that an industry organisation such as the ASI can bring to members and our steel community lies in its ability to act as a bipartisan forum for like-minded individuals and companies to come together to address industry issues and concerns.
ASI is represented on a number of boards, committees and working groups. A list of memberships and our representatives can be found here.
We have put together a collection of case studies featuring iconic Australian buildings and structures that have incorporated the use of steel in innovative and impressive ways.
